Shingles-related nerve pain can continue even after the rash has healed. At DCH SpineCare Center, patients with shingles or post-herpetic neuralgia receive personalized evaluation and access to interventional pain management services based on their symptoms and needs.

What Is Shingles/Post-Herpetic Neuralgia?

Shingles is caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus and may lead to a painful rash. Post-herpetic neuralgia is ongoing nerve pain that continues after the shingles rash is gone, sometimes causing burning, stabbing or highly sensitive skin.

Symptoms/Conditions

  • Burning, stabbing or electric-like pain.
  • Skin sensitivity or pain from light touch.
  • Persistent discomfort after a shingles outbreak.
  • Trouble sleeping or concentrating because of nerve pain.
  • Pain that affects daily activities and quality of life.

Treatments/Services

Depending on the pattern and severity of pain, care may include evaluation, imaging when indicated, injections or other interventional pain procedures, and ongoing management through a comprehensive treatment plan.

If Shingles/Post-Herpetic Neuralgia is making it harder to stay active and independent, SpineCare Center can help identify options for relief. Call (205) 759-7246 to schedule care
