What Is Lower Back Pain?

Lower Back Pain is discomfort, stiffness or pain in the lumbar spine and nearby muscles, joints or nerves. Symptoms may begin suddenly after a strain or injury, or they may develop gradually over time as the spine changes with age and activity.

Symptoms/Conditions

  • Aching or sharp pain in the lower back.
  • Pain that worsens with standing, walking, bending or lifting.
  • Stiffness after rest or first thing in the morning.
  • Pain that travels into the hips, buttocks or legs.
  • Symptoms related to disc problems, spinal narrowing or work-related strain.

Treatments/Services

Based on the cause of pain, treatment may include diagnostic imaging, diagnostic and therapeutic injections, radiofrequency techniques, injury rehabilitation services, on-site physical therapy, and other interventional procedures when appropriate.
