Lactation Services in Tuscaloosa
Breastfeeding is an investment in your baby's future and a wonderful gift that lasts a lifetime. Your breast milk provides optimal nutrition and health for as long as you breastfeed, and beyond. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a follow-up on all breastfed infants within two to three days of discharge. The DCH Health System offers breastfeeding support services at two locations where our team of experienced board-certified lactation consultants provide a variety of resources and services to help you achieve your breastfeeding goals.
Our consultants are available at both locations by appointment only Monday through Friday. There is a consult fee of $30 per 30 minutes of consult time. Our consultants are available to assist with:
- Weight Checks
- Latch Assistance
- Test Weights
- Nursing Issues
We offer store products, such as bras, nursing supplies, and pump kit breast pumps. Breast pumps and supplies are sold by DCH Home Medical Equipment, located in the Phelps Outpatient Center on the campus of DCH Regional Medical Center.
Baby Weigh Day is from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. This service is available for no charge.
