We're excited to announce our latest BEE Award winner, April Fowler from DCH's Case Management team! Here is her nomination....
"My name is Susan Hansen and my husband was admitted to your Northport facility right after Christmas last year. Although I live in Tuscaloosa he lives in Wisconsin and traveled down to be with my daughter and I for the holidays. Shortly after he got here he started experiencing extreme shortness of breath so we took him to the ER there in Northport. Almost immediately we realized that his insurance was refusing to pay for your services because you are not part of his In-Network.
The reason I am writing to you today is to talk about your Northport caseworker, April Fowler. We contacted her regarding our situation and she immediately jumped in and worked with his insurance company to get us an exception for his hospital stay. I could go on and on about how wonderful she was to us and in handling this situation. I could not miss the opportunity to let you know that
April went above and beyond to help us and to support us. She is an outstanding employee and just an all-round great person. I didn't want to let this opportunity to let you know go by without letting you know how wonderful she is.
Long story short, instead of the bill of almost $100,000 bankrupting us, thru her hard work and persistence the insurance company paid their portion and we only owe about $1600. She really saved us and our financial future.
Unfortunately, the story isn't ending too well. My husband has about 12 months to live with his terminal metastatic lung cancer and starts chemo here in Wisconsin in about 2 weeks, BUT, thanks entirely to April we will have that huge financial burden lifted from us so we can focus on his health here at the end.

BEE Award nominations will be accepted from patients, patients’ family members, physicians, DCH employees and volunteers. If you’ve experienced or witnessed extraordinary service from a DCH team member, then nominate that person for the BEE Award.
