Congrats to DCH's Latest DAISY Award Winner: Sydney Nix!

We're excited to announce our latest Daisy Award Winner, Sydney Nix from RMC's TSICU! Here is her nomination...

"I would like to nominate Sydney for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and care she provided to my daughter-in-law and our family during one of the most devastating and frightening moments of our lives.

On February 27, my daughter-in-law, who was 25 weeks pregnant, woke up bleeding and was rushed to the hospital by my son. The team quickly realized the severity of her condition. Tragically, they discovered that the baby had already passed, and my daughter-in-law’s condition soon deteriorated, requiring emergency surgery and massive blood replacement. She ultimately developed DIC and was admitted to the TSICU, intubated and fighting for her life.

During this incredibly traumatic time, Sydney stood out in a way our family will never forget.

When my daughter-in-law was finally awake and beginning the long process of recovery, Sydney helped her get up for the first time. She spoke softly in her ear, gently coaching and encouraging her through every movement. Her voice was calm, reassuring, and full of kindness at a moment when my daughter-in-law was physically weak and emotionally devastated.

Sydney went far beyond her clinical duties. She washed and braided my daughter-in-law’s hair so she could feel clean and cared for after everything she had been through. This simple but deeply thoughtful act helped restore a sense of dignity and comfort during a time when my daughter-in-law felt at her lowest.

Sydney treated her not just as a patient, but as if she were a member of her own family. Her compassion, gentleness, and attentiveness brought comfort not only to my daughter-in-law but to all of us who were watching our loved one fight for her life while grieving the loss of a baby.

Even in the midst of tragedy, Sydney helped create moments of peace, dignity, and humanity. Our family will never forget the kindness she showed.

Because of nurses like Sydney, patients and families feel truly cared for—not just medically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. She embodies everything the DAISY Award represents.

We are forever grateful for the care she gave our daughter-in-law during such a heartbreaking time."
