We're excited to announce our latest BEE Award winner, Tanya Tye! Here is her nomination....
I would like to nominate Tanya Tye for the BEE Award because she truly represents what it means to Be Exceptional Every Day.
Recently, our outpatient pharmacy experienced a technical issue that prevented electronically prescribed medications from reaching our pharmacy. One of those prescriptions was for a controlled medication that could not simply be resolved with a verbal order. The patient was already waiting in the Medical Tower, visibly ill, while waiting for the medication she needed.
I first attempted to reach the physician by phone without success. I also tried TigerConnect, but was unable to reach the prescriber. As a last effort, I called the ED pharmacist phone, and Tanya answered.
From that moment, Tanya took ownership of the problem.
She did not tell me who else I should call. She did not tell the patient to return to the provider. She did not ask our staff to come across the hospital and retrieve the prescription. Instead, Tanya immediately went to work. She tracked down the physician, printed the prescription, had the physician sign it, and within minutes personally brought the prescription all the way to our pharmacy so that we could take care of the patient as quickly as possible.
That alone would be worthy of recognition. But what makes Tanya so deserving of the BEE Award is that this was not an unusual moment for her, it was simply Tanya being Tanya.
In every interaction I have had with her, whether I needed assistance or a patient needed something, Tanya has consistently been willing to step in, solve the problem, and do more than what is expected. I cannot think of a single situation where I have reached out to her for help and she has not come through. She is dependable, compassionate, resourceful, and completely focused on doing what is best for the patient.
There are employees who rise to the occasion when something extraordinary happens, and then there are employees whose everyday character makes exceptional service seem ordinary. Tanya is one of those people.
On this particular day, she did far more than help our pharmacy obtain a prescription. She saw a barrier standing between a sick patient and the care that patient needed, and she personally removed it. She demonstrated teamwork across departments, urgency, compassion, ownership, and a level of service that reflects exactly what we should want patients and coworkers to experience at DCH.
If the BEE Award is intended to recognize someone who exhibits “Be Exceptional Everyday”, I cannot think of a more fitting recipient than Tanya Tye. She does not simply demonstrate DCH’s values when someone is watching or when the circumstances call for recognition. She lives them consistently. Tanya is the kind of employee who makes the people around her better and makes DCH a better place to receive care. She has my highest and most enthusiastic recommendation for the BEE Award.
