Fayette Medical Center Again Named among World’s Best Hospitals

(March 30, 2023, Tuscaloosa, Alabama) For the fourth year in a row, Fayette Medical Center has been included in Newsweek’s list of the World’s Best Hospitals.

Newsweek, in partnership with Statista Inc., released its 2023 list of the World’s Best Hospitals, and only three Alabama hospitals made the list. Like last year, Fayette Medical Center received the second highest rating in the state after UAB.

Fayette Medical Center, located in Fayette County, has been part of the DCH Health System since 1984 and includes 61 licensed hospital beds and 122 long-term care beds.

“I’m pleased that the results we strive for every day are being recognized for the fourth year in a row by Newsweek,” said Donald Jones, administrator, Fayette Medical Center. “For this recognition, it takes dedicated and skilled physicians in addition to highly engaged and motivated caregivers working together for our patients and the community.”

Hospitals included in this year’s list were evaluated in four areas: recommendation from peers, patient experience and key performance indicators. The fourth area, added this year, includes the hospital’s PROMS implementation status. According to Newsweek, “PROMs are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life.”

Peer recommendations were taken from results of a survey of doctors and other health care professionals. Patient experience data looked at patient survey topics such as overall satisfaction, likelihood to recommend the hospital to others and satisfaction with quality of care and service. Key performance indicator data reviewed included quality of care and patient safety.

The Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center hosts a clinic at Fayette Medical Center on a regular basis. Additionally, the hospital offers full-service diagnostic imaging, ICU, swing-bed rehab, a wide range of surgical services and a family medicine clinic.
