DCH Welcomes New Head of Supply Chain

He will lead the department’s mission to balance cost and value by optimizing supply chain practices across strategic sourcing; contracting activities for supply, capital equipment and purchased services; clinical value analysis; supply chain operations and supply distribution; supply and services contractor management; freight management; and the Mail/Copy Center.

Atkinson has worked for a number of health systems where he led supply chain functions. Most recently, he was interim vice president, supply chain, at UCHealth. That system includes 12 acute care, full-service hospitals and approximately 2,300 beds, and is anchored by a large academic Level 1 trauma center and 160 clinics serving western states.

Atkinson also held supply chain leadership positions at UPMC, a health system of 40 hospitals and more than 800 clinics, and Intermountain Healthcare, which includes 24 hospitals and 160 clinics.

He earned a master’s degree in business administration, with a supply chain emphasis, from Arizona State University, and a master’s degree in health administration from Weber State University. He also completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration/management at Weber State.
