Coronavirus Update and Health System Preparations - 6/5

Coronavirus Update and Health System Preparations - 6/5

Testing and Confirmed Cases
To protect patient privacy, DCH has established a minimum threshold of five for reporting numbers of inpatients with laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

DCH internal counts as of 3:20 p.m. on 6/5/20:

  • 64 inpatients are being treated for COVID-19.

  • 23 inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU.

  • Eight who are positive for COVID-19 are on ventilators.

  • 769 (cumulative) have tested positive for COVID-19 including individuals from the ED, triage tent and inpatient. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.

  • 7,889 (cumulative) have tested negative at DCH sites.

  • 159 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have been discharged.

  • 40 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died at DCH.

Also included is a chart showing the percent positive among those tested at DCH locations. This chart reflects totals by the end of each day (except today).

Testing and Comorbidities
Persons under investigation (those inpatients awaiting a COVID-19 test result) have continued to rise. Supply shortages for in-house testing have increased turnaround times this week and DCH has been relying on external labs. Today more reagent supplies arrived and in-house testing will resume this weekend. Because of this, we are likely to see the COVID-19 positive numbers increase again early next week. DCH is working with vendors on additional in-house testing options and we hope to be able to share details soon.

Recently we provided a chart showing comorbidities among those inpatients who had tested positive for COVID-19. Today’s version now includes diabetes.
