Personal Qualifications

Because of the nature of our work and the services and responsibility to our patients, we must require certain abilities of our applicants.

For successful radiologic technology program completion, you as the applicant and student must be able to meet the following requirements. Reasonable accommodations will be examined in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Any disability must be declared at the beginning of the program. If not disability is declared, the student will be expected to perform at the same standard expected of all students in the program.

Communication Requirements

• Hear and answer phone, hear appropriate equipment sounds and hear patient distress symptoms.
• Corrected hearing accepted.
• Read requests, monitors, charts, equipment, operating controls and observe patient responses. Corrective lenses accepted.
• Follow and give verbal and written instructions in order to correctly and independently perform radiology procedures.
• Communicate with patients and their families if necessary; faculty members, fellow students, staff, and other health care professionals effectively and civilly in both a verbal and non-verbal manner.

Physical Mobility Requirement

• Stand, walk, kneel, sit, crouch or stoop with good balance for extended periods of time, exposed to patient elements. May include climbing, handling and reaching positions in assisting patients on and off exam tables.
• Students must be able to move wheelchair/stretcher patients, and assist patients walking.
• Physical presence onsite is essential.
• Adjust exposure factors to produce quality radiographs with minimal patient exposure.
• Use an electronic keyboard to operate radiology instruments and to calculate exposure to patients.
• Maneuver portable and C-arm equipment throughout the hospital.
