I came into the ER in DKA due to undiagnosed diabetes. I was terrified and borderline in a diabetic coma. Jordan joined my team the morning that I was moved into the ICU. She came in with overwhelming calmness and reassurance from the moment she stepped in.

My first time meeting her was her waking me up to check my blood sugar. I remember the immediate breath of fresh air I felt from her and I knew I was in good hands. Every move she made was with compassion and confidence. She thoroughly explained everything she was doing and why she was doing it to me and my family.

My levels were extremely difficult to find the correct balance causing Jordan to constantly pivot to something new until my team found the right balance of my insulin and potassium. There wasn’t 30 minutes between her coming in and checking on me. She constantly made sure I was mentally and physically good every chance she had. Every day she came in with a positive attitude that lit up the room.

Once I began to level out, she immediately started working on Type 1 diabetes education. If there was something that she was unsure of, the next time she came in she had an answer. I never felt like I was in the dark about anything. I am the first person in my family be diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, so my ENTIRE family was constantly in and out of my room. Jordan was patient and answered ALL questions anyone had. Once I left ICU and was in a normal room, I honestly felt lost without Jordan. She had become my comfort and confidence in this dark time. However, she never left me. That day before she left, she came by and checked on me. Throughout the remainder of my hospital stay she was always there.

At my discharge, she printed out TONS of education to ensure I would have everything I needed to prosper on my own in my new normal. Before coming to Fayette DCH, the concerns I had for my health were ignored and casted to the side. I was in a ditch of depression with my health and had accepted was my new way of life. Jordan listened, cared and gave me an entirely new sense of hope. A new lease on life. Jordan is the epitome of what a nurse is supposed to be. She saved my life. I will forever be grateful I had her by my side during this transition. I could write for days about how much of an impact Jordan made and it still wouldn’t even be close to expressing how I feel about her and how much she truly made an impact on me. I don’t just think she deserves the Daisy award, I think she IS the Daisy award. I’m grateful to my entire team, but Jordan was different. She was everything!!! Thank you!
