Congrats to DCH's Latest DAISY Award Winner: Sarah Riggins!

We're excited to announce our latest Daisy Award Winner, Sarah Riggins from RMC's MICU 3! Here is her nomination...

This nomination goes to one special RN on MICU 3. My husband will tell you I don't give undeserved compliments whether in my personal life or professional life.  I'm not really sure I can convey my gratitude on paper, but here goes.

We arrived in MICU3 shortly after being stabilized or should I say as stable as one can be on Levophed.  Sarah immediately took control in a calm, compassionate and expert way.  She was an advocate for us from the moment we came through those glass doors, she knew on our arrival that I was a nurse (guess she got that in report) yet she was explaining every detail of what she was doing and what outcome we should expect. She knew in her nurses’ heart that she was not only caring for the husband of a nurse but also caring for the husband of a very concerned wife. She could see that the nurse had not left me but could also see right now I just needed to be the wife. So, Sarah quickly took over being the nurse with precision. Seeing the determination, she had with even the slightest vital sign change enabled me to let go to just be the wife.  Sarah deserves a Daisy Award for just this feat alone!!  If you know...you know. I'm not one to easily let go of the nurse especially when it comes to those I love. She was detail oriented and communicated efficiently and swiftly with the appropriate disciplines to give us the very best care possible. She was probably one of the most compassionate, caring and down to earth people we had ever met. Few in our lives meet all of those qualities. She just had that gift. The gift sometimes nurses lose. One of the highlights of our day was seeing Sarah coming in for her 7a-7p. She took care of us like she would expect for someone to take care of her family. Sarah was the bright light in one of the darkest times in our lives as husband and wife. Sarah will always have a piece of my heart for the way she treated my husband.  Always!!! She will I'm sure have a piece of husband's heart as well and I am more than okay with that.  She was an integral part of helping to save my husband, the father of our sons and the DiDa to our grandchildren. The words on this piece of paper are not capable of being enough.  The Daisy Award is not enough. A heartfelt thank you will never be enough. NOTHING will ever be enough but it is what it is have to offer her.

A special thank you and note to Sarah herself:

Sarah, I want you to know the words on this paper will never be enough to express my gratitude. I want you to know how much you are appreciated. You are a true angel
and I am more grateful than words alone can express. Few people in this world possess the caring and unselfish heart that you have and I am thankful every day that God put you in our path. Thank you for your kindness, for being the amazing person that you are and your willingness to give so much of yourself to those in need.  I thank you for your part you had in saving my husband's life. I know there were many that played a part in his recovery but none gave as much as you. Thank you a from a very grateful, sincere and humbled wife.
