Nursing with heart! Meet this months Daisy Award winner, Lisa Burnett.

This month's Daisy Award winner is a nurse with heart!  Read what a patient wrote about Lisa Burnett (RMC post-surgical unit):

I stayed overnight after having a procedure and Lisa truly made the experience positive. She has such a beautiful soul and is by far the best nurse I have encountered in my lifetime. She takes every step of her job seriously, with the health and wellbeing of her patient at the top of her list. She was very meticulous and consistent to make sure she knew all of my history, including my health history and experiences that were not on my record. She took the extra time to understand my chronic pain, and how I manage it at home so she could help and assist me to the best of her ability. Because of this she was better able to identify positioning, movements, and speed of mobility that was best for me. She was able to help me avoid any additional injuries, always giving me an arm for support and guidance on how to best move.

She was professional, following every protocol in place. Checking names, dates, equipment status, medicine dosage and timing, followed hygiene procedures, as well as strictly following privacy and always closing the room door. She is very skilled, articulate, and always explained things to me in a way that were highly informative yet easy to understand. She treated my husband who spent the night with me with the utmost respect and included him in all conversations regarding my health. When my 3 children and mother in law visited, she was kind and empathetic. She was very sweet and patient with my children, answering any questions they had, and was proactive with them as they discussed what their mother was going through, as well as discussed things that children love to talk about; how they're day at school went, what hobbies they have, what the book they're reading is about, etc.

Despite my 9 and 7-year-old talking away and my 1 year old making plenty of distractions, her focus on my care never wavered as she helped me to stand and assist me staying on my feet so I could change positions and ease the pain I was experiencing in my back from having to lay in the bed (another example of her taking all of my health into consideration). She always responded to my room calls promptly, checked my surgical site, cleaned the blood off my groin and legs and helped me with overall hygiene, changed the bed pad multiple times, was persistent with making sure my IV and catheter were well in place, and was a cheerleader for me to drink water and be productive with urine output.

If I had to choose a nurse to be by my side at all of my hospital visits, I wouldn’t hesitate to have Lisa Burnett there for me. She deserves every recognition DCH is capable of giving her. She truly sets the standard for what every nurse should strive to be and accomplish in their career, and is a true blessing to the nursing community.

We couldn't agree more!  Thanks, Lisa, for exemplifying the heart of a DCH caregiver... and congratulations!
