Congratulations to DCH's latest BEE winner, Allison Guy Harris!

We're excited to announce our latest BEE Award winner, Allison Guy Harris! Here is her nomination:

"I am writing to formally nominate Allison Guy Harris for The BEE Award for recognition of her extraordinary service and compassion.

I was told I had breast cancer and would need surgery followed by radiation treatments. The thought of daily drives from Coker to Birmingham for radiation filled me with dread and fear.

This is where Allison Guy Harris changed everything. I had known Allison casually through our children’s travel ball team, but when I shared my diagnosis and my fears with her, she stepped into my life in an entirely new way. Allison encouraged me to consider the DCH Cancer Center in Tuscaloosa, explaining the quality of care available right here at home. She reassured me, answered every question, and gave me the confidence to explore an option I had not considered.

Because of Allison’s guidance, I made an appointment at the DCH Cancer Center, and it became one of the best decisions of my life. From the beginning, I was met with extraordinary care. Allison served as my caregiver on several occasions, but even when she was not directly assigned to me, the entire staff reflected the same standard of kindness, professionalism, and compassion. Thanks to Allison’s knowledge and encouragement, I was never scared, uncomfortable, or uncertain throughout my treatment.

I firmly believe I would not have realized the incredible resource we have in Tuscaloosa had it not been for Allison Guy Harris. She went above and beyond her role, transforming what began as one of the darkest times in my life into a journey marked by support, comfort, and healing.

For these reasons, I wholeheartedly nominate Allison Guy Harris for recognition. She exemplifies what it means to be someone who not only provides excellent medical care but also brings light, reassurance, and strength to patients when they need it most. Please consider Allison for The BEE Award."

BEE stands for Being Exceptional Everyday. This award recognizes extraordinary service from our non-nursing staff. Any employee from any department (except RNs) can be nominated for the BEE Award. RNs are recognized for exceptional service with The DAISY Award.

BEE Award nominations will be accepted from patients, patients’ family members, physicians, DCH employees and volunteers. If you’ve experienced or witnessed extraordinary service from a DCH team member, then nominate that person for the BEE Award.

Clear display boxes, which include printed nomination forms, are located throughout DCH hospitals for both the BEE Award and The DAISY Award. Click here to use the electronic forms.
