DCH Spotlight / Georgine Duckworth

When Georgine Duckworth started volunteering at DCH Health System, gas was 36 cents a gallon and the idea of spending five decades in one place seemed unlikely. But here she is, more than 50 years later, still showing up with the same dedication.

Duckworth isn’t just a longtime volunteer — she’s part of the DCH fabric, and her story is one worth celebrating.

“I first started volunteering as a candy striper for DCH and I’ve been just about everywhere else since then,” said Duckworth. When asked if she ever found any of it boring, she responded with a resounding no. “Every department I have been in has always been fun in its own unique way.”

While she loves staying busy at DCH, she credits the connections as the main reason she continues to volunteer. “I just love all my friends and the people I get to talk to when I am here,” said Duckworth. “My days would be a lot less entertaining if I didn’t have DCH.”

As her time at DCH continued, Duckworth witnessed the health system’s evolution firsthand. “This place has grown and changed so much for the better,” said Duckworth. “It’s been amazing to see the changes over the years. I am so proud to be a part of it all.”

“DCH is almost like home to me,” said Duckworth. “I’m thankful to have the opportunity to volunteer here with all my buddies.”
