Coronavirus Update and Health System Preparations - 4/20

Coronavirus Update and Health System Preparations - 4/20

Testing and Confirmed Cases
To protect patient privacy, we have established a minimum threshold of five for reporting numbers of inpatients with laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

DCH internal counts as of 12:20 p.m. on 4/20/20:

  • 22 inpatients are being treated for COVID-19.
  • Nine inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU.
  • Seven inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are on ventilators.
  • 168 (cumulative) have tested positive for COVID-19 including individuals from the ED, triage tent and inpatient. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
  • 3,118 (cumulative) have tested negative at DCH sites.

This represents the first time we have had more than five inpatients in the ICU and on ventilators who were positive for COVID-19. As you can see in the chart, the severity of the cases and numbers of those with COVID-19 who need hospital care slowly started to increase over the weekend.

The current totals continue to be well within DCH’s total capacity to manage. However, the overall upward trend should be a good indicator to everyone that now is not the time to slacken efforts at social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing.

Screening Hours
The volume at DCH’s remote screening tent has continued to lessen. Because of this, the site will now only be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. – noon. Based on the community need future adjustments to the schedule may be made.
