Jerome McDonald, MD is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in advanced surgical care of the heart, lungs, and thoracic cavity. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicineand completed fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. McDonald brings decades of surgical experience, leadership, and innovation to his field. He has served as Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at multiple major medical centers across the country, including Sentara RMH Medical Center and Capital Regional Medical Center. His clinical expertise spans complex valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass, minimally invasive cardiac procedures, thoracic aneurysm treatment, and lung resection surgeries.
With a distinguished background in both civilian and military medicine, Dr. McDonald previously served as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center, including deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. McDonald has held academic appointments as a teaching surgeon and has contributed significant research and publications to the surgical community.
