- Program Purpose
Purpose & Goals
The purpose of the program is to provide educational opportunities in sonography to members of the communities supported by the sponsor. To that end, the goals of the program and its curriculum are designed to:
- Graduate students with the professional skills necessary to perform competently in the clinical setting.
- Provide students with opportunities to develop and then acquire problem- solving and critical thinking skills.
- Graduate students that will demonstrate values and ethical behaviors of a sonographer.
- Graduate students that will practice effective communication skills.
- Provide the healthcare community with entry-level competent sonographers.
- To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and effective (behavior) learning domains for the Abdominal Sonography - extended concentration.
Mission Statement
The DCH School of Sonography is committed to prepare students to be competent, entry-level sonographers, and provide high quality health care professionals to any medical community.

Cognitive

Technical competence
Students will demonstrate technical competence as sonographers.

Students will maintain adherence to the Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice. Communication
Students will communicate effectively with patients, staff, and interpreting physicians.
Anatomy and physiology
Students will demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
Sonographic Physics and Instrumentation
Students will demonstrate knowledge of sonographic physics, Doppler ultrasound principles, and ultrasound instrumentation.
