The DCH School of Sonography offers a 15-month full-time program of instruction that leads to a certificate in the field of Sonography. The program is working toward accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS), and the program's curriculum follows the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and National Education Curriculum
Sonography, also known as ultrasound, is a rapidly evolving field that has seen significant growth in recent years. This diagnostic medical procedure utilizes high-frequency sound waves to create images of internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. These images, often called sonograms or ultrasound scans, are used to examine various parts of the body, including the abdomen, breasts, female reproductive system, prostate, heart, and blood vessels.
Sonography is also instrumental in guiding fine-needle biopsies, helping to collect cell samples from organs for laboratory testing, such as in breast cancer diagnosis. Unlike x-rays, sonograms do not involve ionizing radiation, making them a safer option for many patients.
As technology advances and the use of diagnostic sonography increases, the demand for skilled sonographers ls expected to continue growing. Employment opportunities for qualified professionals are available in a wide range of settings, including clinics, hospitals, private practice physician offices, public health facilities, laboratories, and other medical environments, where they can specialize in various types of examinations.
The program does not accept transfer students from other Sonography schools.
