Tru-D Ultraviolet Robots Designed to Provide Enhanced Room Cleaning

DCH’s Environmental Services Department has a big part in the battle against COVID-19. DCH is continually looking for ways to improve outcomes for patients. That is why DCH began investigating Tru-D ultraviolet light robots designed to provide enhanced room cleaning.

Tru-D Ultraviolet RobotsThe units deliver an automated, measured dose of ultraviolet light to consistently disinfect a room from a single position, eliminating human error and documenting disinfection results for each cycle. This quality of UVC energy is an effective, environmentally-friendly and chemical-free way to prevent microorganisms from replicating in any environment.

After reviewing the studies and science behind this technology, DCH purchased one machine from Tru-D SmartUVC in 2016. The equipment has been validated by more than a dozen, independent, third-party studies indicating it was effective in reducing the transmission of infectious diseases. Its precise UVC wavelength is germicidal which means it is capable of inactivating bacteria, protozoa AND viruses.

Late in 2019, thanks to The DCH Foundation’s Fast Forward Fund, three Tru-D SmartUVC room disinfection robots were purchased. These complement Environmental Services’ existing cleaning processes and bring the total to four UV robots across DCH.

Now, the Environmental Services Department has stationed one of the machines in DCH Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department, specifically for the deep cleaning of the separate COVID assessment and treatment areas. Additionally, the machines are used as part of the cleaning process for any room that was used by a patient with confirmed COVID-19, and each of the operating rooms receives a treatment on a weekly basis.
