Fayette Medical Center and its Long Term Care facility have been recognized as among the top in the nation.

FMC achieved a five-star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that administrates Medicare. FMC is one of only of five hospitals in Alabama and one of 293 nationwide to receive this rating, placing FMC in the top 6.5 percent of the nation’s 4,500 hospitals.

The rating is based on mortality, readmissions, patient experience, the effectiveness of care, timeliness of care, and efficient use of medical imaging.

In addition, FMC Long Term Care ranked in the top 6 percent of similar facilities in the United States for resident satisfaction. Long Term Care residents completed a survey, and their positive responses to “overall satisfaction” and “recommend to others” placed the facility in the 94th percentile nationwide. Two dozen dimensions of care were measured on the survey.

“Both of these accomplishments are truly remarkable,” said FMC Administrator Donald Jones. “I’m proud of all of our teams and the successes we achieve together.”

Bill O’Connor, president and CEO of the Alabama Nursing Home Association, called FMC Long Term Care’s rating “truly remarkable.”

“The surveys are designed to give long term care institutions feedback on the areas to improve,” O’Connor said. “High resident satisfaction scores not only serve to recognize the great care residents receive but also reinforce to the employees (and future employees) that their hard work really does make a difference.”

The Board of Directors of DCH Health System praised the employees of FMC and Long Term Care at a recent celebration.

“[We recognize] that awards such as these do not come easily, and such rankings come as the result of employees’ hard work, dedication and devotion to patients and the community,” the board said in a resolution presented at the celebration. “The board is very proud of our team in Fayette for receiving these honors, as they exemplify our employees’ commitment to providing the highest quality care.”
