A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to diagnose breast tumors.

Screening Mammograms

Screening mammograms are done when the patient is NOT having any problems with their breasts and/or they just need a yearly, routine mammogram. Images of both breasts are taken during a screening mammogram, and the patient will leave before the radiologist looks at the films. Screening mammograms are NOT routinely done on patients under the age of 30.

Screening mammograms are scheduled Monday through Friday at the DCH Outpatient Breast Care Center at DCH Regional Medical Center from 7 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. and at Northport Medical Center's Breast Care Center from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Walk-in patients with a signed, written order can be seen at either campus Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Diagnostic Mammograms

Diagnostic mammograms are for patients who are having problems with their breasts. Images of both breasts are taken and the radiologist will check the images before the patient leaves. If any additional images are needed, they will be done while the patient is there.

Diagnostic mammograms are scheduled Monday through Friday at the DCH Outpatient Breast Care Center at DCH Regional Medical Center from 7: 40 a.m. until 12:40 p.m. and at Northport Medical Center's Breast Care Center from 7:40 a.m. until 1:40 p.m.
