DCH Coronavirus Update 7-24-20

Testing and Confirmed Cases

To protect patient privacy, DCH has established a minimum threshold of five for reporting numbers of inpatients with laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

DCH internal counts as of 2:20 p.m. on 7/24/20:

  • 100 inpatients are being treated for COVID-19.
  • 30 inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU.
  • 10 who are positive for COVID-19 are on ventilators.
  • 2,064 (cumulative) unique positives for COVID-19 tests including results from the ED, triage tent and inpatient. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
  • 13,959 (cumulative) unique negatives for COVID-19 at DCH sites.
  • 2,660 (cumulative) positive COVID-19 at DCH sites. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
  • 17,747 (cumulative) negative tests at DCH sites.
  • 480 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have been discharged.
  • 97 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died at DCH. This is not an indication of the cause of death, only that the individuals were positive for COVID-19 at the time of death.
  • 57 Tuscaloosa County residents (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died (per the Alabama Department of Public Health).

Behind the Masks

Hopefully you will never need to visit the DCH Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center as a patient. But if you do, it is comforting to know that the center is one of only a handful of facilities across the country to become a certified member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network™. That level of clinical excellence has come about because of a talented group of people who are dedicated to providing care that is both compassionate and clinically excellent.

The Cancer Center team recently embarked on a project to show little glimpses of the people behind the masks. Take a look at their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mandersoncancercenter to see a few of the “Behind the Mask” posts and learn more about the team.
