Tuscaloosa Support Groups for Cancer Patients & Their Families

The Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center offers many support groups for our patients and their families.

Behind the Ribbon

Volunteer breast cancer survivors provide peer-to-peer support, educational resources and make visits to women recently diagnosed with breast cancer. To schedule a visit from a Behind the Ribbon volunteer, contact our Patient Navigator at 205-330-3647.

Cancer Wellness

Promotes health and wellness to anyone diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families, during all phases of treatment and recovery. It meets the 3rd Tuesday of most months from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. in the Manderson Cancer Center Wellness Room. Reservations are requested. Lunch is provided.

HeART: Healing with the Arts

FREE art workshops every Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the Manderson Cancer Center Art Room. Workshop participants have the opportunity to use art to express their feelings. Open to all patients, family members and caregivers.

IMPACT (Breast Cancer)

Identifying Many Positives After Cancer Treatment (IMPACT) provides support, information, education and community service to benefit its members, other breast cancer survivors and their families. IMPACT meets once every month from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Most meetings are held at the First United Methodist Church. The Boutique hosts two meetings a year at the Manderson Cancer Center. Reservations are requested. Lunch is provided.

Look Good, Feel Better Workshops

This program is for women who are undergoing cancer treatment to learn new ways of dealing with changes in their appearance and skin. Look Good, Feel Better is a free program sponsored by the DCH Foundation's Help and Hope Fund. It meets once a quarter from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Manderson Cancer Center Wellness Room. Prostate Cancer Support Group

This support group provides community-based education and support to help men and their families cope with their cancer. The group meets every other month on the 2nd Thursday from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. in the Manderson Cancer Center Wellness Room.

Smile A While

This program is for children and teens who have a loved one dealing with cancer treatment. The program is designed to help children cope with a loved one's serious illness. If you are interested in more information about Smile A While, or to schedule an appointment, call 205-759-6253.

STRETCH

A unique exercise and support program for all women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis. "Stretching" can begin eight weeks following a surgical procedure. This group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. at the University of Alabama Student Recreation Center. Patients must fill out an application and obtain a physician order.
