Since 1986, the Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center has combined advanced treatment with a strong focus on our patients. West Alabamians diagnosed with cancer are treated by board certified oncologists using the most advanced equipment available in a building designed to contribute to a world-class patient experience. The Manderson Cancer Center is a recipient of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
three-year accreditation with commendation, the highest level of approval given by the organization, and is a certified member of MD Anderson Cancer Network, a program of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Located next to the Phelps Outpatient Center at DCH Regional Medical Center
, the Manderson Cancer Center provides a full range of cancer treatment services in one convenient location. Radiation, chemotherapy, an outpatient lab and a pharmacy are right there, under one roof. Along with the modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment, our patients find a team of skilled professionals that includes physicians, nurses, therapists, nutritional counselors, a financial counselor, a clinical psychologist, a social service representative and a chaplain.
The Manderson Cancer Center offers enhanced access to research-based institutions through affiliations, registries and clinical trials. Many advanced and minimally invasive technologies are available, including the latest in radiation technology. New technology more accurately targets the tumor and protect surrounding tissue by accounting for tumor movement that often results simply from the patient's own breathing.
There will be much greater emphasis on early diagnosis, translating directly to a longer and more enjoyable life for each cancer patient. Ultimately, those diagnosed with cancer will receive world-class treatments that are effective, informative and respectful to the patient and the patient's family members.
Radiation therapy is provided by two Varian Linear Accelerators, the most advanced devices of their kind in the world. The advanced technology increases reliability, limits delays and increases the number of patients who can be treated every day. Their increased speed also increases patient comfort.
Running nearly the entire length of the south face of the building is the area where patients receive chemotherapy. Custom-made treatment areas have the capacity to treat up to 24 patients at one time in an open yet private environment. Before and after their chemotherapy treatment, patients can make their way out on to the elevated terrace garden and enjoy the sun and fresh air.
On the main floor, patients will find an art gallery, a coffee shop, a patient boutique with certified fitters for prosthetics, the Belcher Chapel and the Family Resource Center. The Wellness Room located on the first floor offers patients a place to participate in exercise classes and support groups
The Manderson Cancer Center offers free parking in the Outpatient Deck and reserved surface parking. There are walkways connecting the deck to both levels of the cancer center.
