Tuscaloosa Babypalooza For New, Expectant or Hopeful Parents

DCH Health System a sponsor of this year’s Tuscaloosa BabyPalooza, Saturday, Jan. 25.  The event will be at the Bryant Conference Center from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

BabyPalooza is a free celebration and expo for new, expectant and hopeful parents. The expo will feature baby and maternity exhibitors, interactive entertainment, shopping for the latest and products and services, and education and information. Features include a Babies-r-Us Baby Registry 101, maternity and children’s fashion shows and a nursery design center.

DCH will host displays for the Women’s Pavilion at Northport Medical Center and the Women’s Center at DCH Regional Medical Center. Attendees will learn about the Lactation Department at DCH, which provides breastfeeding support to moms who have recently delivered, including infants in the Well Baby Nursery who are nursing and infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit whose mothers must pump to provide nutrition for their babies.

The University of Alabama Child Life Services will be on hand to describe their services. Child Life Specialists are available three days a week for patients on the Pediatric Unit, NICU and Emergency Department. Child Life Specialists are certified experts in the field of child development with a unique knowledge of children’s fears, stressors and reaction to hospitalization. At DCH a Certified Child Life Specialist and UA students provide preparation and coping techniques, and emotional support during invasive procedures. They also offer therapeutic play at the bedside and in the playroom.

This year’s BabyPalooza will feature a citywide baby shower where participants can play games and win prizes. There will also be children’s health and safety education and pre/postnatal health information. Baby, maternity and family vendors will be at the event displaying their latest merchandise. Expectant parents can stop by Nursery Design Center for nursery ideas.

BabyPalooza is free to attend, but registration is requested. Attendees can preregister at www.BabyPaloozaTour.com or at the door.
