Dr. Frederic (Deric) Jones, medical director for the Emergency Department at DCH Regional Medical Center, has been named a 2013 Medical Director of the Year for Emergency Medicine.
TeamHealth, one of the nation's largest providers of outsourced physician staffing solutions for hospitals, gave the award in Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Anesthesia and Urgent Care. Jones was one of 13 professionals recognized for excellence in physician leadership by TeamHealth's operating division presidents. The winners are among more than 8,900 health care professionals affiliated with TeamHealth.
Jones has worked with TeamHealth since 2005. He was most recently medical director at Decatur General Hospital, where the department earned the National Top Improver Award from Press Ganey. He was assistant medical director at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Birmingham and was a staff physician in the emergency departments at Cullman Regional Medical Center and several other hospitals.
He completed the emergency medicine residency program at Duke University after receiving his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from the Citadel and completed premed requirements at Rocky Mountain College and the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
A fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians, Jones was the medical director of the Chest Pain Center at Decatur General and was a volunteer for Kenya Relief in Migori, Kenya, Africa.
