DCH Cancer Center becomes second health care facility in Alabama to receive affiliation.
The DCH Cancer Center has formed a regional affiliation with MD Anderson Physicians NetworkÒ, which is a supporting organization of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world's most respected leaders in cancer care and ranked No. 1 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report's "Best Cancer Hospitals" survey for seven of the past nine years including 2010.
"The DCH Cancer Center's affiliation with MD Anderson Physicians NetworkÒ enhances our mission and commitment to provide the most advanced treatments for cancer to residents of West Alabama," DCH President and Chief Executive Officer Bryan Kindred said.
The DCH Cancer Center is the second health care facility in Alabama to have a local affiliation with MD Anderson Physicians NetworkÒ and is one of only a few affiliates in the U.S.
"The affiliation with MD Anderson Physicians NetworkÒ will ensure that treatment at the DCH Cancer Center encompasses national practices in patient care," DCH Regional Medical Center Administrator Bill Cassels said.
The DCH Cancer Center was approved for affiliation of the MD Anderson Physicians NetworkÒ by the MD Anderson Physicians Network Board of Directors at its October meeting in Houston.
"The approval process was extensive," DCH Vice President of Outpatient/Ancillary Services Donna Marrero said. "The base requirement for affiliation was accreditation by The Joint Commission and the American College of Surgeons (ACS), which the DCH Cancer Center has."
"On-site evaluation was ongoing, with successful site visits to medical and radiation oncology," Ms. Marrero said. "On-site visits also included reviews, assessments, and/or inspections of medical record, chemotherapy policy and practices, radiation doses and fields, and physical plant and equipment."
