Imaging Services (Radiology)

Fayette Medical Center

The Radiology Department at Fayette Medical provides a number of procedures used in diagnosis and therapy of a wide range of conditions. The department is staffed 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Appointments are scheduled from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. On-call staff is scheduled after 5:30 p.m. on weekends.

The Radiology staff is trained to provide education and explanations of the procedures, respect patient privacy, comfort and reassure patients who are having procedures performed. A primary care physician’s office schedules imaging appointments with the department.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) produces electronic images of specific structures in the body, including tissue and blood vessels. Fayette Medical Center now has a permanent MRI unit at the hospital.

Computerized Tomography (CT scans)

Computerized Tomography produces a precise reconstructed image of a particular area in the body. Our CT scanner is of the highest quality for today’s scanners.

Ultrasound procedures use inaudible sound to produce images or photographs of organs or tissue in the body. Fayette Medical Center has two licensed ultrasound technicians, who are trained in vascular and doppler sonography. Our ultrasound technicians are also trained to do echocardiograms.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine “scans” are used to diagnose certain conditions, including tumors and coronary artery disease. In nuclear medicine procedures, a radioactive agent is injected into the patient, or inhaled, in order to make a diagnosis. Fayette Medical Center has a fully licensed Nuclear Medicine program, with a number of trained technicians to meet the needs of every patient.

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to diagnose breast cancer. Our mammography program is approved by the State of Alabama and American College of Radiology.
