DCH Regional Medical Center
More room to care for you
When it comes to lifesaving medical techniques, endoscopy ranks high on the list. Not only can it help detect and identify problems within the gastrointestinal tract, but it can often treat them as well.
With this in mind, it’s even better news to know that endoscopic services at DCH Regional Medical Center have just upgraded to a new Endoscopy Department that includes state-of-the-art equipment in a spacious setting.
The perks include:
More space. “The expansion nearly doubled the square footage of the Endoscopy Department, making everything larger, including private bays and a new, larger waiting room,” said Steve Jones, Registered Nurse and Endoscopy Department Nurse Manager. “Family members now have a more comfortable, spacious area…in our new waiting room, and patients won’t have to leave the department to have procedures performed in a different room or area of the hospital.”
The new department includes five large endoscopy bays for performing procedures such as:
Detecting and identifying stones, tumors or narrowing in the bile ducts.
Measuring the reflux of acid from the stomach into the esophagus.
Faster service. “The new expansion has also decreased the amount of time a patient will be in the Endoscopy Department,” Mr. Jones said. “With a larger prep and discharge area and increased staff, we are able to minimize the amount of waiting time for a patient having a procedure.”
Advanced care. Residents of West Alabama can have the most up-to-date procedures done with the latest equipment. “The DCH Health System board of directors and administration have been very committed to ensuring that the people of West Alabama receive the highest quality care available,” said Dr. J. DeWayne Tooson, Medical Director of the Endoscopy Department. “The new Endoscopy Department is another example of that commitment.”
A strong medical team. Physicians with privileges in the Endoscopy Department at the Regional Medical Center are gastroenterologists Harold Brown, Martthew Carnes, Donald Howe, A. D. Reddy, Gardner Rowell, S. D. Sundar, and Dr. Tooson. Surgeons serving in the department are Bradley Bilton, Harold Falgout, Charles Gross, Naresh Kumar, Quan Tran and J. O. Waits.
