The Respiratory Care department at DCH Regional Medical Center provides diagnostic care and general respiratory therapy. The department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Diagnostic services provided inclue blood gases, spirometry and emergent bronchoscopy. General respiratory therapy services include oxygen therapy, medicated aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene therapy and patient/family education.
The department has 80 people on staff. Every therapist in the department is certified and registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Several therapists are also Neonatal Pediatric Specialists.
Respiratory therapists are also active in critical care, managing mechanical ventilation in neonatal intensive care, hyperbarics and several adult intensive care units.
The Respiratory Care department also provides pulmonary function studies, non-emergent bronchoscopy and pulmopnary stress testing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
