DCH Regional Medical Center
The Pediatric Unit at DCH Regional Medical Center is located on the third floor. The unit cares for patients who are 15 years of age and under, excluding Well Baby Nursery and NICU patients. There are 20 patient beds in the Pediatric Unit.
The Pediatric Unit provides patients with partial and complete assistance with activities of daily living, age specific needs in regards to growth and development and medication management. Education and support to parents is also provided. When patients are feeling better, the unit has a playroom for children to go to and spend some time playing with toys and games.
Pediatric staff members speak to elementary and high school students about growth, development and health related topics. The unit is also open to classes during the school year for school tours. The Pediatric Unit also participates in the annual Teddy Bear & Doll Clinic, where area first graders learn about the hospital.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at DCH Regional Medical Center
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Regional Medical Center is the only one in Alabama, and it is the 80th in the United States.
The new area serves families of children on the Pediatrics Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Regional Medical Center. It’s a special place of rest, relaxation and privacy for families and only footsteps away from their children’s bedside. The room includes a kitchen with light snacks, a computer, Internet access, a large-screen television and recliners.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is the result of a partnership of the Regional Medical Center, the DCH Foundation Inc., Ronald McDonald House Charities, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama and McDonald’s owners/operators in Tuscaloosa County. Support for the project also comes from several foundations, corporations, service clubs, physicians and individuals throughout the DCH Health System service area.
