The Community Health Needs Assessment for DCH Health System hospitals is a requirement of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
“The assessment was developed by stakeholder committees comprised of diverse groups of elected and community leaders formed for each hospital,” said Community Relations Director Sammy Watson. “Each group met four times during the summer to review data and rank the priorities for their communities.”
DCH Regional Medical Center and Northport Medical Center were combined into one assessment because the hospitals share much of the same service area.
Hospitals will be required to update the assessment every three years and provide the IRS with documents that support priorities and action plans developed by the stakeholders.
Priorities identified by all three groups included wellness, access to care, mental health, substance/alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy/infant mortality/single-parent households and physician recruitment.
