A prestigious medical journal noted that DCH Regional Medical Center was among the top performers in a nationwide project to reduce hospital admissions and re-admissions.
As reported in an article in AL.com, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that following up with people who had been discharged along with community health awareness campaigns led to fewer people being readmitted to the hospital within 30 days.
The project involved 14 communities across the country. In Alabama where Birmingham nonprofit AQAF and DCH Health System in Tuscaloosa teamed up for the project, the results were even better: a 9.6 percent reduction in re-admissions and an 8.7 percent drop in hospitalizations, according to AL.com.
